Development of a framework for determining the appropriate data exchange within a supply chain

  • Ongoing globalization, internationalization, market disruptions, and increasing complexity lead to new challenges for the supply chain of the companies. One way to deal with such challenges is effective communication between suppliers, trading partners, and customers. Meaningful exchange of the data between the various stakeholders in the supply chain leads to improvement in business operations in terms of speed, agility, reduced costs, and better customer service. In recent years many concepts and technologies have been developed for the data exchange. However, there is no real framework available to evaluate and determine the right way or the right technology to exchange the data. Thus, the focus of the thesis is to develop a framework to compare the various data exchange concepts and technologies based on the different dimensions. To do so, the following tasks have to be solved: • Literature research of concepts for the intercompany data exchange. • Analysis of various data exchange concepts and technologies • Development of a framework for describing the various data exchange concepts and technologies • Derivation of the evaluation criteria for selection of the right data exchange concept or technology.
